Maple Ridge Community Center

Building Sketch

In 2007 Maple Ridge Church purchased a 28,000+ sq. ft. facility on 3.5 acres of land to serve the community. Located near both Amherst and Hadley on Rt. 116 in Sunderland, Massachusetts, the Maple Ridge Community Center has undergone major renovations through the relentless efforts and generosity of our members and volunteers. The renovations that have been done so far look great.

In the past three years we have been on a journey that no one of saw coming. In the winter of 2007, the heating system broke down and we had to find another location to meet within two weeks. The Amherst Middle School auditorium became our home for the rest of the school year. (Thank you Amherst Middle School). During this time we started building our new auditorium, lobby, kitchen and restrooms using one third of the large gymnasium.

The summer on 2008 was spent meeting at different locations until we simply could not find any more. We then moved back into the building, meeting in a corner of the 12,000 sq. ft. gymnasium. As we neared the completion of the renovations, we got shut down completely (long story). Again, we were back at the Amherst Middle School the week of Easter 2009. The summer of 2009 was the most interesting for us; Instead of musical chairs it was musical locations, sometimes from week to week.

The building needed a more extensive fire alarm system than originally intended and more fire safety precautions including huge firewalls at a cost of about $90,000. Considering that we had used all of our finances, we realized that only God could make this happen – and He did.

We moved back into the auditorium on Easter weekend a year after we were shout down. Since then,  first floor of the classrooms and gymnasium have been nearly completed.

WHERE ARE WE NOW?

We still have a lot of work to do. They include, finishing the second floor of classrooms by December 2010 ($15,000) and installing the sprinkler system which includes bringing water from across the state highway (RT 116) by 2011 ($150,000). The other things that need to get done include handicap ramps, resurfacing the floor of the gymnasium and roof repairs ($60,000).

It seems like an insurmountable task.

But Its not.   God has shown us that He has a plan, and it’s far bigger than a building; its about people trusting Him. One thing we can say is that this has been a faith journey and He is building our faith by being faithful.

One thing we have learnt is this: Where God guides He provides. We are on a journey learning what it means to walk by faith – honestly, it super exciting.

The vision of the building serving the community is already happening with multiple community groups utilizing the space.

We are in need of all kinds of help, from praying for this project, to volunteering and giving financially.

Would you kindly consider a generous donation of $120 (equivalent of $10/month for a year), $240 (equivalent of $20/month for a year), $500 or MORE towards the completion for this project? Your donation of any amount will be of tremendous service to the entire community. Upon hearing our current financial situation, two people have offered to match $5,000 gifts each in funds raised. Your donation of any amount will be of tremendous service to the entire community.

Thank you very much for taking time to review our request. Truly, this journey to see a vision realized has been filled with wonderful blessings as well as times of trials and challenge. Still, we consider this moment but a bump in the road through which God can be glorified as we seek His guidance and wait on Him to accomplish great things!
